I was thinking of the title in the vein of “Oh, the smell of spring is the loveliest” but then I remembered I do that every season (most recently with the smell of snow) so I decided this one was better. 😉
The thing is I really enjoy the smell of each season. And I am possibly thinking I enjoy this one more because the winter was both long and dark which is not usual here. And the spring, now it has arrived, is both sunny and warm. The days lasting suddenly so long…
These days I am walking home most of the time, enjoying the various scents in the air. There’s been a little rain and the sunny warmth has made the grass suddenly grow tall. So now you can smell it being cut around the city. Everything is in bloom and so far I haven’t discovered what smell it is, but one of the trees I pass by smells candy-like.
Well, it’s probably vice versa, it’s probably a fruity tree in bloom but it’s wonderful. And that is just one of the smells. The air is truly fragrant and the best thing – it is warm.
Each spring I’m on the lookout for a perfume that encapsulates spring and each year I end up empty handed.
There are many perfumes I associate with spring (Odalisque and Coty Fatale for ex.) but I would love discovering one that smells like spring in my mind.
Many try but fail somehow (Byredo Inflorescence I’m looking at you).
While the search continues, I’ll simply enjoy my fragrant walks when the season is upon me. 🙂
P.S. Is it just me, or does anyone else feel this incredible need to rest and re-charge?

Beautiful pictures Ines. We are no where near so far here in the north, all the buds hide and feel they can’t quite trust the sun, after so many months of bitter cold. I don’t know what spring smells and feels like to you, but I do wonder if it will be possible to find anything like what you feel hits all those spots. Like in the fairy tale ‘ The Nightingale’, the mechanic bird is fine, but in the end does not compare to the real thing.
Anyway, I’ll go and try to find my samples of Odalisque and Fatale 🙂

Aren’t there just so many smells of Spring (indeed every season).
I’ve been trying to contain myself, but have thought of and posted on at least 20 scents that come to mind really without thinking!
But Odalisque… yes… it hadn’t occurred to me, but yes!!

I keep thinking of Odalisque but haven’t applied it yet. I should do it soon now. 🙂

Rest and re-charge? Yes, you are definitely not alone in this.
While I do enjoy the Spring scents on my city (flowers on the trees, etc), I realized there is another, more intimate scent of the city each season. It is not bad, it is not made of distinct scents, but it is what makes me think “Yes, Spring is here, I can smell it”, or “Smells like a warm summer night”. I cannot explain this, but I enjoy it nonetheless.

Marianthi, you’re right! 🙂 There must be an underlying city smell that makes you know it’s your city and it’s the seasonal smell of your city.

I’ve been enjoying smell of blooming trees for the last couple of months (Spring starts here in February around our birthdays 😉 ) but I wouldn’t mind to prolong this period for a couple months more.
I’m tired “locally” (I haven’t been sleeping good recently because of my back/neck problem) but in general I cannot complain… So no re-charging for me (other than a good night sleep, please 🙂 ).

Ines, it is finally very spring-like in Pennsylvania and I have been enjoying the blooming of the weeping cherry trees (the prettiest of the blooming trees, in my opinion) and am anticipating the blooming of the redbuds next. Also, a couple people in my neighborhood have mowed their lawns and smelling that yesterday made me feel incredibly happy. I’m really quite glad there is no perfume that can imitate nature in its full spectrum of smells large and small, because if it was easily imitated, it would cease to lose its spellbinding sense of wonder. That said, I do enjoy the way perfumes can deliver a fine slice of nature, and thinking about this makes me want to wear Un Lys today.

I know it would be pretty much impossible to imitate the smell of spring in perfume, but one can always hope. 😉

Spring has been very slow in coming this year, where I live. We had wonderful weather this weekend, but I just read in the report that snow is coming again this week. 😦 But, I have been noticing a few buds and some brave flowers coming out, so I’m optimistic! And I agree that the ultimate spring perfume does not, for me, exist.

Still snow?! And I thought we had it forever here this year.
I certainly hope spring arrived soon and in full swing (like it did here). Although it was a bit too fast this year so everything bloomed all at once and even more people have allergies as the air is saturated with more pollen than is usual.
