Drunk on perfume

I finally realized what happens to me when I’m in a niche perfume store. I get drunk. And I mean seriously tipsy by all the fumes wafting around while I’m trying perfumes even when I temper it with coffee (like in real life, coffee helps a bit when you’re drunk).

I couldn’t resist anymore so I went to Victor Koncept for some serious perfume sniffa-tour. And that’s exactly what I did. So, of course I overdoses and got extremely giddy and forgot some of the things they told me so I asked twice. Like for example, when is the rest of PG line coming (end of this week) which is bad. Really bad. Because I tried their tuberose and patchouli and I seriously like them (and they weren’t even on the top of my PG list to try! So, I’m thinking, tuberose is not for this time of year, and I have enough patchoulis so I can test the rest next week without problems. Because I have high hopes for some other stuff coming in. But their patchouli is so great. It’s a dark chocolate patchouli, deep and warm and if not black, then very close to it.

I also managed to try Byredo Palermo – a must try more before next summer. It’s a different take on summer cologne/citrusy stuff and that is what I like (bitter orange or something like that got me). Baudelaire is also one I’ll try again. I like the Tulipe but it’s not for me.
After reading some nice things about Penhaligon’s Bluebell, I finally tried it. ๐Ÿ™‚ I can see what might make people like it – it’s bottled sprimg meadow. I’ll see in the spring if we are going to it hit it off.

This time around, I took enough time and didn’t have to rush so I got some samples to try as well. Yeey! That is also how I got drunk on perfume. ๐Ÿ™‚ But I don’t mind.
I mean, I was a bit light-headed when going home and couldn’t stop smiling due to giddiness but I really deserved a trip there. It’s been six months since my last time. Unfortunately, it’s not going to be that much until my next visit.

Do you want to know what I bought?

After discovering just last week I love amber, L’Eau d’Ambre by L’Artisan came home with me.
Along with – Molecule 02. Yes, I’m very susceptible – I’m sure everyone saw the Luckyscent 5 sexiest perfume choices clip. And, honestly, I tried it before and just couldn’t understand (again!) what the fuss is about. It turns out that the tester is not what’s in the bottle and the stuff only works correctly when sprayed on skin and not on paper strip. So, I bought it unsniffed basically but I’m checking the effect as soon as tomorrow. ๐Ÿ™‚

P.S. I was surprised at how many people were at Viktor Koncept, usually when I go, I’m the only one. Also, I really had the time of my life and didn’t want to leave, everyone was very friendly and we discussed so many things (they again let me try something they only received to try and still don’t have at the perfumery).

New purchase and some detective work

I really, really should learn from experience. Especially when it’s mine. ๐Ÿ™‚

All I wanted to do was doi a quick visit to Viktor Koncept store, try Bal d’Afrique and Amaranthine and leave because I was in a hurry to the next appointment I had. Of course, what happened is that I was more than 20 minutes late and with a new perfume purchase I never planned on doing. I blame it on SAs there. They were really helpful and we were discussing different houses they have and what should I try for my ski trip (he, he, I’m mobilising people right and left to help me choose) and at that time, while smelling some very interesting things on strips (like Tilleul, Eau de Gantier, etc.) I realized my right wrist smelled great and mistakenly thought it was Bal d’Afrique which was on my left wrist. Or, I thought right but everything got messed up in my head because I was in a hurry. So, I decided to take Bal d’Afrique home with me because even though the name doesn’t suggest it, it feels right for skiing. ๐Ÿ™‚ Unbelievable. I’ll let you know when I come back if I was right.

Notes: lemon, neroli, African marigold, cyclamen, vetiver, jasmine, violet, bucchu, cedar, black amber? and musk.

At this moment, I cannot give you a coherent opinion on what this is because mostly what I’m thinking is what it’s not. ๐Ÿ™‚ It reminds me of many different perfumes but it’s not them. Even though I’m not madly in love with it, I am completely fascinated. It feels like it could hypnotise my nose and not let it go.

On the other hand, I could fall in love with Amaranthine if I give it some time. At the moment we are eyeing each other and flirting, considering what might happen in the future. Are we going to go for the real thing or just flirt a bit?

Notes: green tea, white freesia, banana tree leaf, coriander, cardamom, rose, carnation, clove, orange blossom, ylang-ylang, jasmine, musk, vanilla, sandalwood, condensed milk and tonka bean.

I won’t even try to decipher the notes I smell. Do you see how many are there?! At first, I didn’t think there was going to be anything happening between us. It started like a bitterish green floral (I attribute the bitter part to tea and coriander) and then the bitter edge dissipated and what I was left with was a green floral going for vanilla. I kept thinking why so much vanilla and where is it coming from – making its way through the green floralcy. I guess the condensed milk and tonka bean are helping there.

So, I came home and went in search of notes and found at NST that it was โ€œreminiscent of the scent of the inside of a womanโ€™s thighโ€ – once I read that and the notes, I could totally see it, the muskiness and dissipating bitterness giving one an idea like that. This is not something to turn you away from this, just try and see if you get it as well. ๐Ÿ™‚

Now on to the part where my bad streak of things not happening as they should continues.

We were talking about Viktor Koncept getting some new perfume brands for their store, here you can see what they have so far, and me being in a hurry, I paid, and since I was in a hurry and the bag they packaged for me wasn’t close, I asked if I could get the bag and wave good-bye, and they gave it to me. Unfortunately for me, there were no samples in it which I realized once I got home. And I’m not blaming the SAs, they always put interesting samples when I’m there, but I asked for my bag right after the discussion and I don’t think they even realized there were no samples in it. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ I’m so sad I’m not going to try anything new, but hey, these things shouldn’t be done in a hurry.

And, here is where some detective work comes into play. ๐Ÿ˜‰ They plan on adding some new brands to their store but those that are not yet present here. That means brands that aren’t at the Institut Parfumeur Flores either which narrows the field. My first hope was that someone was finally going to have the whole SL line. Which of course, I don’t know beacuse Viktor is keeping it a secret.

The others that might come as per my detective work (and they are going to Paris to talk to them): Boadicea, Caron, Divine, Ego Facto, Fifi Chachnil, Fragonard, Frederic Malle (oh, yes please!), Le Labo, Montale, Nez a Nez, Reminiscence…

I didn’t put here houses that are present here but have exclusive lines (Chanel, Guerlain, Van Cleef and Arpels, etc.). I mean I hope they arrive but sincerely doubt it.

There are also some lines that are not from Paris but which I would LOVE to see here. Tom Ford if anyone who can make a difference is reading. ๐Ÿ™‚

Huh, that was a lot to go through.

Big thanks to the NST team which helps with pretty much any investigative work relating perfume (I used their list of houses and notes).

Perfume shopping in Zagreb – Viktor Koncept

My hometown might not be Paris, London or New York but we do have our share of niche perfumeries. ๐Ÿ™‚ Thank God for that.

I don’t how many people will visit Zagreb and decide to to go niche perfume shopping, but in case some get the urge, I decided to do a series of posts after visiting each of the stores. Those visits might prove a bit hard on my credit card account but will certainly make me happy, like the one yesterday to Viktor Koncept proved to be.
All the shops I plan to visit are located in the centre of the city but since that is a relatively large area, I am attaching a map to the address, Kralja Drลพislava 10.

Viktor Koncept is not only a niche perfumery but as the name might indicate, also a concept store. I wasn’t interested yesterday in perusing the rest of the store that contains clothes, shoes and accesories for men and women, and some cute house accesories as well (I checked those the last time I was there).
I have to admit, I wasn’t there for quite a while, so I got terribly upset with myself after entering and discovering that they have significantly improved their offer with new lines. I mean, I know why I didn’t go (trying not to spend money) but I still should have. At least there is still time to change that and try everything I find interesting, or the SA finds interesting. I didn’t achieve a rapport with the lady there but she was still nice and at some point in time, seeing my obvious interest, presented some of the Comme des Garcons fragrances I might find interesting (I was mostly focused on them yesterday).

My most pressing concern in going there yesterday was trying the L’Artisan’s Vanillas since I know Viktor holds the line. They still didn’t have the Havana Vanille on offer but had one bottle left of Vanilia. So I tried the Vanilia and while I was discussing my wish to compare it to Havana, another SA came and said that they just got yesterday the sample and if I wanted, they could spray it for me to try. I mean, what they had was a 10 ml decant bottle, not the actual sample bottle. Not only Havana Vanille, but they also had a small bottle of Al Oudh as well. ๐Ÿ™‚ And of course I tried that one as well. What can I say – I’ve learned to appreciate and respect ouds but I still have a problem wearing them. I had no more space on my wrists so I only tried a strip of this one, but that was enough. I not only find it wearable, I find it sexy of all things (I’m not sure if that was the intended idea). It’s obviously an oud fragrance but it is so much more (it takes you to faraway places that speak to your soul and seduce you).
This oud is going to find it’s way to me sooner than later. ๐Ÿ™‚

Actually, this was not the point I was trying to make, I got sidetracked by oud.
After spraying Havana Vanille on a strip and smelling it, it was obvious straight away that this was not the vanilla I was going to take home. I got hit by sweet vanilla, rum and dried fruit and had to remove it from my nose straight away. I am planning to give it space on my wrist in the future but I’m not holding my hopes up for it. I do understand now why people are upset that Vanilia is going out of production. But my bottle is safe now. ๐Ÿ™‚

This is turning into a long post. ๐Ÿ™‚ So, to get to the point. If you are interested in tracking down the following lines in Zagreb, Viktor Koncept is where you can find them:
– I already mentioned L’Artisan and CdG

– Parfums de Nicolai (including home fragrances and lovely bottles for holding them)

– Etat Libre d’Orange (no Fat Electrician yet)

– Penhaligon’s

– Byredo (and candles)

– Villoresi

– Carthusia

– Juliette has a gun

– Escentric Molecules

– Boudicca

– Parfum D’Empire

– Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier (can’t wait to try them)

– Parfumerie Generale
– Parfum d’Orsay

– and lastly, they have Cire Trudon candles.
My appetite for discovery is only whetted now. I plan to visit in a month or so (just before Christmas) since that’s around the time they are expecting some new additions (like CdG Daphne, Penhaligon’s Amaranthine and I have high hopes I might find Al Oudh then as well).
Come back next week and see what else can be found in Zagreb.
