Thoughts on spring and recent sniffs

I know I’m lagging behind a bit with writing about perfume. I want to do a real review of Bal d’Afrique because I think it deserves it and I’m somehow lost in the crossing between winter and spring. I cannot seem to find spring in my perfume wardrobe so today I did a bit of sample classification and put florals and those that seem spring-like and green close to my hand so I can put them on when I need something of that sort without having to go look for them.

I find it really strange that I have full bottles of stuff that is for winter and also for summer (autumn comes in between and is never really a problem) but when spring comes, I get lost and don’t know what to wear.

I don’t know if anyone noticed, last spring there was much talk about lily of the valley and lilies in general for spring. This year it’s mostly about narcissus and hyacinths. And not only that there is much talk of it, I also feel this year I want to wear those flowers (again, am I that susceptible to trends?)

One of the things I’d like this spring seems to be Amaranthine. The more I think of it, the more I want it. You know where this is leading, don’t you? πŸ˜‰

In my search of spring scents, I tried again Lolita Lempicka original. I just can’ see the appeal. And honestly, I get completely lost in the samples of LL stuff I have. How many flankers are there?! I’m never completely sure which one I’m testing. I also have L de Lolita Lempicka (I find that one better than LL) and I also have Fleur Defendue (I still have to try that one).

One of the things I realized this spring is that I enjoy tea in my spring scents (I’m planning a post on that soon).

And a thought to finish with, I finally get the Parfum de Therese and Une fleur de Cassie by Frederic Malle. And when I say I get them, what I actually mean is, I love them and need them in larger quantities than a sample.

P.S. I bought Cadjmere by PG quite some time ago for my boyfriend who doesn’t seem to appreciate it, so it is MINE now. πŸ™‚ Yes! Yes! Yes!

I am wearing Amaranthine all the time this spring. It is addictive. I also find that Havana Vanille has crossed over nicely into spring; I am appreciating the narcissus in it more now that they are in bloom. What would you recommend for hyacinth?

Oh Krista, I envy you (but not for long I hope). :)Regarding hyacinth, I actually have the same problem as you. I don't have a perfume that smells of it, but Carol was really nice and she sent some DSH Blue H my way which I cannot wait to try. I am anticipating that package eagerly. πŸ™‚

Hey Carol, it seems now that I said I'm confiscating the bottle my boyfriend wants to give it another go (men!) πŸ™‚ but I can always do a 10ml decant if that would interest you? It's a 50ml bottle and there is around 40ml left in it.P.S. I don't think he is going to like it but I will pretend I'm giving him choice if he wants it back. I'm just bad. πŸ˜‰

I agree spring is a hard season scent wise- i think there is so much going on in nature and you don't want to replicate that.

No one is worshiping hyacinth enough to use it as a soliflore but I find it such a beautiful plant. Having said that, you wouldn't find anything more spring than Anais Anais by Cacharel – which is power loaded with hyacinth.

Rose, a good point. I never really thought about it like that but that's true. Everything around me smells great, even the spring scented air freshness, it would be really difficult replicating that in perfume (but I do hope people keep trying). πŸ™‚

Eugene, I haven't smelled Anais Anais in ages. πŸ™‚ I'll give it a try as soon as possible for a hit of hyacinths. Thanks for stopping by. πŸ™‚

Ines– Um, not to get too personal, but when id the boyfriend happen? Cheers! Well, I want to hear what you have to say about Bal d'Afrique– the name is so intruging. I agree, spring is a bit hard to nail down in the scent department, although I'm wearing the LV "Musk" you sent me obsessively– writing about it on Thursday.

LCN, that was actually me keeping my private life well, very private. πŸ™‚ He happened some 8 years ago. πŸ˜€ I still find it unbelievable it's been so long but there you have it.Bal d'Afrique will be coming soon, we are getting to know each other quite well. πŸ™‚

Re:"…when spring comes, I get lost and don't know what to wear."Yes. Yes. Yes. I'm having so much trouble with spring. I may have finally gotten my scent cravings down (and my mind is spinning for a blog post right now), but this has been an extra weird scent spring, somehow.

CF, you're right, it's been a bit strange for me too (I noticed how often you weren't wearing anything). Well, there's still time to turn this spring into a scentful sunny adventure (with perhaps an insect or two flying around). πŸ˜‰ Loved your last post on that.
