I’m not gone just a bit MIA

Dear readers, I feel like last couple of years all I do is plan on writing more and it always seems like I write less. 🙂

I don’t really have a good explanation why that happens as I have many perfumes in my queue I would love to write about, it just seems that life has some other plans that unfortunately intervene in the meantime. Life is usually unpredictable like that. 😉nev1

The last few months have been rather tumultuous when it comes to my life, what with the quantity of work I had to do, what with separation from my long-term boyfriend, and then finally with enrolling to get my driver’s licence. And that is just the three largest things that come to mind.

As none of that is finished yet, I am sincerely hoping I organize my time and mind in a manner that allows me to write (and smell) more.

That said, I will be finally getting some well deserved peace of mind and rest when my vacation starts on the 30th (of July). Luckily, that is not far away.

In the meantime, I’ll leave you with some general perfume thoughts I’ve been having lately:

  • I’m not really happy with the new L’Artisans even though they are Duchafour’s work
  • I am rather happy though with Cologne du Maghreb and finally understand Andy’s idea of spraying your body with a lot of cologne, works like magic! 🙂
  • The Scented Hound sent some amazing perfumes for me to try (and I did), now all I need is to give them more time and write about them
  • The longer I’m in this perfume world, the more I am starting to lean towards old style perfumery – French classics are taking over my heart
  • Helped by the new Coco Chanel biography I’m reading (well, I just started) – I have a feeling it will be a good one
  • Also, I really, really want to find an old version of Chanel 5 (see previous bullet) 🙂
  • And Paris has been on my mind lately for several reasons, perfumes, Coco Chanel and I’m re-reading Angelique, La Marquise des Anges after I saw the new movie (beats me why it got such bad reviews…)

P.S. The picture is of the weather we have once a week here (give or take a few days). It’s also a bit what my life has been like lately. Which is why I loved this Portia’s post where she hid a little gem of a sentence in about loving yourself.

Life is about to get better and more fragrant!

We’ll be waiting for more posts from you.
Speaking of L’Artisan, you mean Mon Numero 10? Or Explosions d’Emotions vol. 2? Or both?
Now you got me curious what Houndie has sent to you.

No, I meant the Explosions d’Emotions. It’s all fine until it gets awfully synthetically musky. 😦
As for Hound’s package, well, I’ll just say he wrote about them… 😉 Positively.

I haven’t tried these new Explosions d’Emotions, but I didn’t like any of the 3 launched last year.

True. I actually think the last year’s ones were a bit better…

Isn’t Portia great at dropping in those little bits of positivity?

I’m sorry you are having to weather the storm right but like they say, the darkest hour is before the dawn.

I wonder if it’s a common thing to get drawn to the old style perfumes eventually.

Whenever you feel like writing we’ll be here, so just do what you need to do in the meantime.

    Vacation time soon!

Dear Tara, you’ve really been a well of positive thoughts for me lately. It really helps a lot reading your words of comfort. And I can’t help but wish them true. 🙂

      Yes, vacation time!! 😉

    Dear Ines,
We will wait, don’t worry. Take your time. Nothing is so important that you need suffer because of it. I did not know that you were at such a life crux. Hugging you across the seas. Good luck with the driving, Jin & I are currently on the road to getting our motorbike licenses. It’s scary-mazing learning a new vehicle.
Did you ever see that film, “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel”? There’s a great line in it, repeated often, “In the end everything will be alright. If everything’s not alright, then it’s not the end.”
Tara, YOU are a drop of positivity.
    Thank you for the link-love.

Dear Portia, thank you. I don’t usually share my difficult parts with the public but I think it’s important letting others know that having a difficult period in life is not something strange that should be hidden, we all go through periods like that. I’m treating mine as a life lesson and even though there are parts I’d rather weren’t there, I still can’t help but think I put myself where I am now, I will also get myself out of it.
I didn’t see that film but now you mentioned it, I definitely will. Plus, I REALLY like that quote. 🙂 😉

Totally agree Ines about letting us see your reality. It makes you more real to us and reminds me that everyones life is light and shade. We are all not alone in it.
Yes, that quote often comes up in this house. It’s amazing how much perspective it gives at times of less than tranquil living.

My dear… I hope the vacation helps part the storm clouds. Even though this has been a lovely summer where I am, there does seem to a general funk that is permeating the season. Things will get better I promise 🙂 Sending love across the miles! xoxoxoxoox

Dear Ines, take care of yourself! In no time you’ll be able to drive away from the stormy weather (btw, how long does it take to get a license?).

    Enjoy preparing to your vacation!

Thank you Undina. 🙂 Yes, soon I’ll be able to drive away from my problems. 😉
Getting the license is a process of around 3 months. First you take classes for 2 weeks on regulations, then you wait a week for a slot to take the exam and once you pass the exam, you are allowed to go to driving classes. You have to drive for 35 hours before you can take that exam. So all together, I’m hoping to get mine sometime end September…

Aww, Ines, I’m terribly sorry to hear what you’ve been going through. Thank goodness you’ll be on your vacation soon – I hope that goes beautifully for you. Will you be taking along a certain boy wizard, the one who is your usual companion on your summer retreats? I hope so. There’s no better cure for life’s ailments than reading a favorite book (or two or five). Wishing you love, a great holiday and much happy reading (whatever you read, and I know you will!).

Dear Suzanne, the boy wizard and I have parted ways some 10 days ago so we will not be spending the summer together this year. 🙂
But you are right, books and I, we spend great summers together.

And part of my summer will be spent with Asali, so great times are assured. 😀

Dear Ines, I’m so sorry (I should have written straight-forwardly rather than trying to be cute) but by the boy wizard, I was actually referring to Harry Potter, as I know that you usually re-read your Harry Potter books during summer vacations. I’m sorry for the confusion (and after looking over my comment again, I can see why you didn’t make the connection). Yes, I had seen from your post that you had broken up with your boyfriend, so I wasn’t referring to him. I know you’ve been with him for a very long time, but you’ll get through this, and being with Asali with make for a wonderful vacation in which the time will fly by. Enjoy every minute of it. xoxo

Dear Suzanne, I’m sorry for the confusion too. I understood you meant Harry Potter and yes, I finished reading it some 10 days ago. 🙂 So I will not be reading it during summer vacation. 😉
As for my boyfriend, that is still an unfinished story as we separated for the time being and have not yet broken up. 🙂 Quite a strange story.

Hi Ines, sorry to hear that life has been throwing you a few lemons lately, not least the separation – temporary or however it pans out – from your boyfriend, which will be a major stressor just on its own. I am glad that you have a holiday coming up and hope you can really relax and unwind. I also don’t post as often as I used to – I think it is difficult to sustain a very frequent schedule on one’s own – so don’t worry about that. Your readers will be pleased to see a post whenever it pops up again!

Dear Vanessa, thank you for the kind words.
The fact that vacation time is coming up is what keeps me going these days. 🙂 Oh well, I’d keep going on my own too but having something like this in the near future definitely helps. 🙂
I will try and post more once I get a bit of relaxation going on…
