People who know me are aware of that fact but I surprise myself now and then.
Btw, actually two people who I know independently of one another, learned they both know me because one of them mentioned Harry Potter in passing. So, there you have it. 🙂
But what I want to discuss today is actually something else. I re-read the series for the umpteenth time 2 days ago. And when I say umpteenth, it means more than 10.
Honestly, I actually thought there wouldn’t be anything new in the books this time around. Well, I was, of
course, completely wrong about that.
This time around I found new funny moments, realized that Charlie Weasley actually never appears in the movies even though I’d say he plays a big enough role in the books to merit one. I was amazed I never wondered what happened to Harry Potter’s grandparents (none of them seem to be alive).
Those were just some of the things going through my head while reading this time (I’ve also been figuring out many twists in the book which I previously ignored).
But the thing that makes me think I’m a bit freakish when it comes to HP is the fact that each time I finish it, I want to start over. Straight away.
And it ruins books for me for a while. I want to start reading something new but nothing I pick up just seems to be as good and reading-wise fulfilling as HP.
It will pass with time (it always does) and I seem to have found a book to tide me over in the meantime (P. Briggs: Frost Burned).

I’m with you with the Harry Potter series. I also read each of the books for more than 10 times and each time I noticed something more, whish slipped from my attention while reading earlier

I would have done the same but when I got there, the line was really long and I knew I wouldn’t be starting before morning anyway, so we went for drinks and then straight to the bookstore when it opened.
And then I spent the whole weekend in bed with the book. 🙂

As long as you’re not only reading Potter, there’s nothing wrong with the odd re-read now and then. I’m trying to take it a chapter at a time to get a new perspective on the whole series (and it frees up time to read other books :)).

It’s just, reading HP is such an amazing ride, I wish it would never end and I’m always a bit sad I need to start reading something else when it’s over.
I’ll be back in a year or so though… 😉

Hi Ines, I know what you mean. I am that way when it comes to Tolkien or one of my many other favorite authors. They kind of spoil reading for a few days for me. I loved Frost Burned, just read it a couple of weeks ago. If you haven’t yet read any Naomi Novik books I highly recommend them, full of great characters and dragons.

It’s on my list of books I want to re-read this year. I’ve seen the movies too often in the last few years, so now I have a spoilt memory of the book – I need to remedy that. 😉

So, is this where I admit that for the first few books, I ignored the growing hype (sometimes I get like that when everyone is raving about something) until I finally picked up the first four as a set on a Saturday afternoon, cracked open the first one about 7:00 at night…… and finished the fourth about 4:30 in the morning. LOVE Harry Potter.
The books that I re-read every few years are the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy series. The books were a gift from a friend way back in junior high, and every few years I have to pull them out once more. And laugh and laugh and laugh all over again.

I probably should have been clearer – when I did the marathon read, there were only four books out in the series, which is just as well, or I would have never got any sleep that night at all. 😉 After that, I was part of the Buy Them at Midnight crowd, and am happy to report that I totally called it about Snape. And I’ve re-read them all since then too.
Have you ever read any Charles de Lint or Tad Williams? They’re both favorites of mine.
