I wonder if my idea about this perfume will have any connection to the actual idea behind this perfume.
But it can’t be helped, ideas and associations coming through smell are not conscious.
The thing is, I actually enjoyed smelling this perfume. That said, I don’t think I will ever wear it. And that said, I wonder if it actually might get popular with the younger crowd.
You see, it smells to me the same way as the blackcurrants taste. That is, the taste of the fruit is
experienced through the nose in this perfume. The juicy sweetness and the bitter tartness all there, practically exploding in the air around you. Even the menthol-like hints of what a blackcurrant candy would taste like is there (I’d say the combination of rosemary and aldehydes might be responsible for that).
I didn’t even try to smell the notes when the general idea was so clear. Eventually you lose the juiciness but the candy feel remains. And that is basically why I wouldn’t wear it even though I find it novel enough to like it a lot. That is also the reason why I think it might go well with the younger crowd.
It is also the reason why I wondered about the idea behind the name – no forest really smells like this except possibly the ones from fairy tales. I’m pretty sure many kids would sooner imagine this as the smell of forest than what the forest really smells like. After all, if it’s enchanted, of course it doesn’t smell like the usual kind. 😉
TOP notes: pink pepper, aldehydes, sweet orange (traces), flower cassis, blackcurrant leaf, hawthorn, effects of rum and wine, rosemary, davana.
HEART: blackcurrant buds absolute (by LMR from Grasse), CO2 blackcurrant (by Floral Concept from Grasse), Russian coriander seed, honeysuckle, rose, carnation, vetiver.
BASE: opoponax resinoid, Siam benzoin, amber, oakmoss, fir balsam absolute, Patchouli Purecoeur®, castoreum absolute, cedar notes, vanilla, musk.

I had a test blotter of Enchanted Forest that I squirted in Jovoy while there and the dry down is super yummy on paper, that was weeks ago and i just threw the paper out still smelling gorgeous after rolling around in my travel bag.

The second review of Vaganond Prince I’ve read in as many hours and both are enticing.
I too am unsure I would wear anything with the candy quality that you note; however, I am always entranced by the idea of an aldehyde and fruit opening… and blackcurrants really are my fruit of choice.
I must try this, but the question remains how?

Thank you for the review! There is one truth… fragrance connects to you or not. That is with any fragrance you try. When it comes to fragrances we are really very influenced with our memories and habits. Sometimes, fragrance wins you especially if somebody you care gives you compliment. Talking about innovation and progress, fragrances like any other art should reflect time in which it is made… and we did not want to play in the safe zone of ‘modern classic’ or back and redo some old ideas.

It probably doesn’t sound like it from my review, but I enjoyed Enchanted Forest a lot and I find it a brave perfume. It’s definitely a new thing for my nose, one which I enjoyed a lot, it just doesn’t fall into the category of perfumes I usually wear.
I’m definitely looking forward to what you come up with next – there is going to be a next perfume at some point hopefully?

You do not mention the actual “forest” component of the perfume that comes into the play after an hour or two on the skin. Is it because that part wasn’t that prominent on you?

Undina, I would have loved to smell a “forest” component but I didn’t. It could be that my nose made its associations and couldn’t get past them but the only forest I could smell would be a fairy tale one, not the actual kind. 🙂

Although the reviews for this so far have not been stunning, and I am betting I will probably not love this from your vivid description, I still feel like I have to try it because it’s so interesting to me how “normal” people have been able to launch a perfume. Fascinating!
