I believe I am finally getting the whole enthusiasm behind the Arquiste line. So far I only tried Anima Dulcis and I’m already thinking the rest are probably as great as this one.
I see it’s one of those brands that hide the notes and all I could find was this:
Notes include: cocoa absolute, Mexican vanilla, cinnamon, chilli infusion
The notes might make you think it’s a sweet perfume but that wouldn’t be true. There is some sweetness to it but it’s in the background. Although now I said that, I wouldn’t say anything is up front.
On me it starts with a light boozy feeling accompanied by hints of anis and cuminy warmth – very seductive. Of course, I could be just imagining these things, but there is a warm “musky” feel to the start of this perfume and that is why I’m guessing some cumin but who knows, the cocoa absolute could hint at that as well.
It stays close to skin and slowly radiates its seduction off of you. Soon what radiates gives off spiciness, I thought the cinnamon possibly bolstered by some clove too. I can’t say I smell chilli but as the spiciness is unmistakable, I’m sure chilli is doing its thing.
The more you smell it, the more intoxicating it gets. I didn’t get the feeling it changed much after getting into the perfect spicy warmth skin.
I must say I haven’t smelled such a seductive conjurer of a perfume in quite some time. I am very much in love. Or possibly just very infatuated as the seduction certainly worked on me.
I have to add that the description on Arquiste site is very interesting as it mentions nuns making cocoa infused with chilli and “making a rich experience for the senses” and all I can think is – those are some very naughty nuns there. 🙂

A very seductive review! I like that you say the more you smell it the more it draws you in, I only took a quick sniff at Roja Dove’s HP, but that was not enought to reel me in. Will retry it for sure.

Well, not at the same time.
I’m not counting my boyfriend as an accurate specimen (he is my boyfriend after all) so in order to make it an objective test, I need to include others too. 😉
Basically, I’ll wear it to work and check if anyone notices (not putting much faith into that if I’m to go by previous experiences).

I recently told someone that I wanted to catch up with all of the samples and decants I have now, and not get anything new. I really should stick to that plan, but your review makes it tempting to say the hell with it! (Especially your statement that you “haven’t smelled such a seductive conjurer of a perfume in a long time” … yowza.)

Suzanne, I understand your problem. 🙂 I want to do the same with my collectionn as I’m sure there are many more perfumes like this in there, it’s just that I’m not aware of them.
And speaking of testing perfumes on men, Mona’s Oud has so far generated most comments. Today I was told by a colleague that it smells like a wall around me. Which is an unbelievably good point as that is why I apply it – to bolster me.

I was upset with this brand coming out with 6 (six!) scents and it affected how I smelled those perfumes at the store: I was bored by all of them. I should probably give them another try when I get a chance: you sound very convincing 🙂

Undina, I completely understand as that happens to me on a regular basis. And if by chance, the names are longish (or heaven forbid, similar) I completely lose interest (as does my nose).
I do think these might be worth another sniff though. 😉
